![]() United States Amatuer Surfing Champs 2001 North Jetty, Oceanside, California United States Surfing Federation (USSF) Event In conjunction with: ESA- Eastern Surfing Association Wahine Event Coverage For video clips, click here Monday July 16th (contest is finished!) What a week for weather and waves! The water has gone from a cozy 69 to a balmy 57 and then up to a moderate 62. The winds have been strong and now there is a red tide tint to the water. The mornings have been hazy and grey, and sometimes the sun peeks out after 11am, although it never broke through today. The surf began small and weak and has steadily built to overhead, peaking for the semi finals. Conditions have been favorable for some and more like closeouts for others. It's the draw of the heat, the timing of the sets, and an incoming or outgoing tide that has shaped the surfing we've witnessed this week. Sixty five girls and women competed during the week and almost half traveled from the east coast! Wahines from Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, and New Jersey are vying for U.S. Amatuer Surfing Titles. eastcoastwahines.com wants to congratulate all the wahines who made the trek west, no matter if you fell out in the first round or made the finals, you should be proud!
