The East Coast Wahine Championships (ECWC) started back in 1997 as a tribute to our late friend. This website came about in 1998 as a way to connect the east coast surfer girl community- we’ve now connected with surfers worldwide!
We wrapped Hawaiian ti leaves with shells and stones and asked the Queen of Makaha to bring us waves. A circle of women, from Maine to Florida in a sunset ceremony. And we were blessed. Aloha spirit spread quickly amongst east coast surfer girls. We made new friends, saw old ones. We surfed. We laughed, we cried. We turned pink and then red in the sun. Our parched lips begged for more water. We celebrated womanhood, sharing our souls on incoming waves and changing tides. .Thanks to everyone who keep the Wahine Championships alive. This website is dedicated to all surfer girls. A place we can share our stories and our lives.
