| Bill Ballard has captured the revolution of the women’s surf movement. In his film Blue Crush, he features the current top ranking women surfers. Layne Beachley, Megan Abubo, Serena Brooke, and of course his wife, Rochelle, who alone has put more effort in legitimizing women’s surfing as a sport worthy of big money sponsors and world wide respect than anyone. Blue Crush takes the surfer girl elite to Indonesia, South Africa, Australia, California, and Western Samoa. An excellent mix of surfing, profiles, and a soundtrack featuring music from Morcheeba, Dance Hall Crashers, DaDa, Ruth Ruth and more. These girls go big. Their energy and laughter leaves aspiring surfer girls in a dream world. The high performance surfing leaves surfer boyfriends with a jealousy complex and egos that can’t admit Megan Abubo shreds harder than they do. Include a tribute to Rell Sunn and footage of women like Frieda Zamba, Wendy Botha, and Margo Olberg, the old skool brigade, the one’s who paved the way to today’s surfer girl explosion.
