COURTNEY CONLOGUE WINS 2007 EAST COAST SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPScourtneyconlogue.jpg

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia (Saturday, August 25, 2007) – Courtney Conlogue (Santa Ana, CA) scored a sensational victory over fellow “new guard” members Karina Petroni (Atlantic Beach, FL), Lindsey Baldwin (New Smyrna Beach, FL) and Quincy Davis (Montauk, NY) to claim the 45th Annual East Coast Surfing Championships at Virginia Beach.

The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 1-Star event served as the final event of the 2007 ASP North America Women’s Season.  Conlogue has been a standout performer all season, and she came into Virginia Beach one of the event favorites.

“I came out here with the goal to be on the podium at week’s end and I’m really happy to have accomplished that,” Conlogue said.  “The girls were all surfing so well and to come out on top in the finals feels great.”

The progressive natural-footer took to the improved conditions at this season’s ECSC, mixing up traditional carves with futuristic fin-free maneuvers.

“The waves were so much better this year than last year,” Conlogue said.  “I always like coming to Virginia as the crowds are so enthusiastic.    It’s a great atmosphere down here.”

The ASP Regional Longboard event also kicked off its ECSC action today, with Mikey DeTemple (Indiatlantic, FL) leading the charge as he finessed his way to the Semifinals.

“The waves have been pretty fun today and they really turned on for my heat,” DeTemple said.  “I’m just stoked to still be in the hunt and hopefully I can have a good showing tomorrow.”

Tomorrow will see champions crowned in the men’s, women’s and pro junior divisions.
